Building a Thinking Classroom Together: March

“What does the conference have to offer for Building the Thinking Classroom?”

This is the year to attend the conference if you want to learn more about Building the Thinking Classroom! We have so many things to offer this year:

  1. Peter Liljedahl: If you are one of the lucky 120 symposium attendees, you get a full workshop day with Peter Liljedahl himself!!! But don’t worry, if you didn’t get a spot in the symposium, you can still hear Peter talk at Friday morning’s keynote. I am so excited for a chance to hear Peter, in person, at a local Minnesota event. I learn something new every time I listen to him.
  2. Sessions to teach you about BTC: If you are just hearing about it, or want to learn more about it, we have several sessions for you. I will be giving one session that continues from Peter’s keynote and then another session about creating tasks to use. The MCTM VP’s will also be facilitating roundtable discussions for anyone wanting to get together and visit more about questions and ideas. You will also find a session about grading that can be used in the BTC.
  3. Sessions about implementing BTC: Many teachers have been trying BTC in their classrooms for the last few years. We have several sessions this year from those teachers sharing their experiences. Hear their journeys and learn from their experiences.
  4. Sessions to experience the BTC: Have you seen it in action? Have you experienced BTC as a student? These sessions will lead you through great tasks while demonstrating the practices of BTC.
  5. Use in the BTC: Although not directly a BTC session, we have several sessions that can be used in a BTC. They are about teaching strategies or tasks that can be directly related to practices in BTC. It is one of the things I love about BTC, all of the best practices that I read about can and are used in a BTC classroom.

When you reach the end of Saturday, I hope you will have found what you are looking for in this year’s spring conference. I am excited to see and hear from the educators around the state that are using BTC in their classrooms. If you haven’t registered yet, do it today! Click here to register.

Also, keep your eyes open for upcoming BTC workshops this summer!

***I am looking for more topics and questions to discuss. If you have a question about the Thinking Classroom, or if you have a story or success that you would like to share, please send me your question in this google form.

Until next time, keep on building! Together we will build a generation of thinkers.
