Involvement with MCTM and Mathematics Education:

I have attended the conference for around 15 years. This includes presenting, helping with technology and being a delegate. My experiences include teaching at a variety of schools, this includes classroom and online. I was able to be part of the evaluating process for the state teacher licensing test. As a student, I have earned my license through traditional classrooms and through the License by Portfolio. Currently, I am involved with the SciGirls program through TPT facilitating our PLC. In my current position, I am working with technology all of the time.

Math Teacher and Co-lead of Math Department at Humboldt High School, Saint Paul Public Schools

Education:

  • Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics, University of Minnesota
  • Masters of Math Education, University of Minnesota

Goals as MCTM Region Director:

I want to continue to help build a math educator community where teachers can network and grow professionally. I have attended MCTM every year since I was a pre-service teacher. I love to be around other math teachers that are passionate about math but understand how complex teaching and learning can be. MCTM is a conference where it feels like everyone is there to learn, reflect, and grow. I want to be a part of helping MCTM learn, reflect, and grow!

Involvement in MCTM and Mathematics Education:

I have facilitated learning sessions and MCTM, my school, my district, and through the Hollyhock Fellowship about written assessments, engagement strategies, and discourse. I will be presenting at NCTM in April about written assessments (math essays). I try to volunteer at Math-on-a-Stick every year and have been leading our Algebra 2 district curriculum writing team. Finally, I have successfully implemented a math carnival at our school that has consistently brought in 800+ students, families, and community members every year!
