Goals as MCTM Region Director:

As an educator for over 25 years I continue each day to strive to excite my students and colleagues about the joys of learning mathematics. My philosophy for teaching and learning mathematics is, I believe math should not be a discipline of formulas and rules to follow, but rather one of connections, balance and patterns. No matter our mathematical focus, when we connect to the learning and see how it influences our daily lives, we want to learn more. Our educational system can be a place where this understanding becomes lost in the need for higher test scores. My years of direct experience with teachers and students has proven to build understanding of how establishing routines focused on strong mathematical pedagogy, as well as school improvement strategies is critical to facilitating the learning process.

I would like to continue to support and extend mathematical pedagogy to all those who educate our students through additional math opportunities similar to the Connect Mixers and Math EdCamp learning opportunities available to those living in the metro area. I recognize the need for extending the vast knowledge that MCTM provides to our outer Minnesota area.
