Through my math lens, I started to think about how we culturally communicate what it means to be a good mathematician. Do students even want to be mathematicians? I wondered what would happen if I simply replaced the word art with math.

The past four days, I have had the opportunity to visit many middle school classrooms. The teachers in my district are focusing on using teamwork and team strategies to engage students in rich mathematical tasks.

MCTM has established a portal for posting and viewing available math positions. Administrators can post open positions by filling out a simple form. The posted positions can be viewed by anyone.

The Higher Learning Commission has adopted new rules/regulations concerning instructors of mathematics at post secondary institutions. Bemidji State University has put together a variety of graduate level mathematics courses to help individuals meet these new requirements.
As President of MCTM, I am hoping to see each of you in Duluth April 29-30th, 2016 for our annual conference. My favorite part of conferences is the opportunity to network with math teachers from around the state that inspire me. The best ideas and most effective change I’ve made in my own classroom has often come from the people I meet in Duluth each year.
