MEA EdCamp Math And Science MN 2018

MEA EdCamp Math And Science MN 2018

Over MEA EdCamp Math and Science MN was held at Tartan High School. If you don’t know anything about EdCamp, it is an unconference which means an the agenda is created by the participants at the start of the event.

This was a new experience for me and one that I found very rewarding. The highlight of the day for me was having conversations and making connections with other math and science teachers.

Topics for the day included equity:

  • How do we encourage more marginalized students to take higher level course?
  • How do we have difficult conversations with our students and incorporate more social justice topics and relevancy in our classes?

Other topics focused on student discourse and writing. Continuing to get our students engaged in the material and developing understanding at higher levels. Topics also included the connections between math and science as well as teaching students with different needs (ABE, EL etc).

Taking the time to have the conversations was meaningful and provided a plethora of resources to pursue.

I’d encourage you to check out the resources in the session notes at edcampmsmn.org. Keep the conversation going on twitter with #edcampmsmn

There was also an EdCamp held in Detroit Lakes. Connect with Jessica Strom for more information or read her post in MathBits.
