MCTM CONNECT (Committee to Orient and Network New/Novice Educators into a Community of (Math) Teaching) is an MCTM initiative that aims to provide support for pre-service mathematics teachers and those in their first few years in the profession. For the rest 2015–2016, we plan to have a monthly feature in MathBits with a CONNECT theme—stay tuned!

To introduce you to CONNECT, here are some services that we provide:

  • CONNECT Blog: This blog contains useful tips and information for new and beginning teachers. Check it out at https://mctmconnect.wordpress.com/
  • Mentors: Beginning teachers who are interested can be connected with an experienced math teacher for email and telephone consultation and support.
  • The MCTM CONNECT Session (April 28, 2016): Held on the Thursday night before the Spring Conference in Duluth, pre-service and beginning teachers will make connections, learn how the maximize their conference experience, enjoy a meal compliments of MCTM, and participate in the famous door prize and book give-away.

We’re also hosting a special CONNECT event at the NCTM Regional. It will be an informative but informal session, emphasizing networking and sharing of ideas. The session is specifically for pre-service teachers and beginning teachers in their first three years. Click here for more details.

To be sure that all new math teachers are connected to these professional growth and support opportunities, encourage them to contact MCTM. We can’t inform them of these activities if we don’t know who they are. For more information visit www.mctm.org or to be CONNECTed, contact Larry Luck at larryluck@aol.com or at 763-784-0084.
