Why do I look forward to the MCTM Spring Conference?

Why do I look forward to the MCTM Spring Conference?

Being fortunate to attend a few national math conferences, I can honestly say our MN spring conferences have very similar high-level content.  The presenters in Duluth are dedicated, knowledgeable, and align content with the categories of focus each year.  This year is no exception as I look through the schedule to see a nice balance among future standards implementation, equity & access, Building Thinking Classrooms, and instructional practices all steeped in evidence-based practices.  We have so many talented educators presenting this year and every year from the Midwest!

Meeting and connecting with national presenters and experts in the math education field is something I always look forward to each year as well.  If you get the chance, you will find they are humble and kind.

Attending this conference provides opportunities to connect with new acquaintances and old friends in the math education world.  Chatting with potential future teachers and seeing their excitement also primes my pump.  The MCTM conference is a great place to network and share stories, experiences, challenges, and knowledge.

Chatting with vendors in the exhibit hall is a great way to take a brain break.  Plus, many booths have some fun and useful giveaways!  My students always look forward to me bringing some of these freebies back to share with them.

Having the lens of a board director for almost a year now has opened my eyes even more as to how much work goes into preparing this wonderful conference.  There are so many behind-the-scenes actions in preparation, each one carefully thought through.

We hope to see you at the conference!  Be sure to take time to rub elbows and share your passion for teaching students mathematics with others!!
