MCTM Foundation Update January 2023

Congratulations to Teacher Incentive Grant awardee –

Cathy Nolte,
Princeton Intermediate School
Her project is Learning to Persevere

“One area of need that we, as a fifth grade team, have identified is perseverance. Students give up easily and do not take the time that is needed to problem solve. This project is about building students’ stamina for problems. To bolster their confidence to try different strategies and not give up. We would like to use the program of Struggly by Jo Boaler. It is an online program that is created to have students learn to struggle so they can build their resilience. By building their stamina, students will be more willing to work at harder challenges and take on bigger tasks. We are hopeful to see that students will improve on their MCAs and all around understanding of mathematics. “
