Executive Director Announcement

The Minnesota Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) Board of Directors announces its search for an Executive Director who will act as business and information manager of the council, conference registration chair, and a spokesperson of the Council.  The ideal candidate will have had prior experience with the activities of the council and be able to organize and communicate effectively, flexibly problem solve, and work collaboratively in support of and at the direction of the board of directors. This candidate will also have proficiency in database management, technology skills, and familiarity with governance management.

Who we are:

As an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, MCTM is an organization of professionals dedicated to promoting the teaching and learning of meaningful mathematics for all students by supporting educators in their efforts to improve mathematics instruction.

 The purpose of the council is to:

  1. work for the improvement of mathematics teaching and learning at the elementary, secondary, and college levels in Minnesota;
  2. support teachers by providing opportunities for the exchange of ideas and materials regarding instruction in mathematics;
  3. further the study of issues relating to the teaching and learning of mathematics
  4. promote an active interest in mathematics among appropriate constituencies

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive payments and make deposits
  • Manage membership database
  • Work with the Executive Committee to set agendas
  • Process spring conference registrations
  • Manage logistics of board meetings (contracts, etc.)
  • Manage logistics of spring conference (hotel contracts, conference facilities contracts, etc.)
  • Represent MCTM at the state and national level
  • Oversee the MCTM By-Laws

  • Ability to prioritize workload and delegate as necessary
  • Honor multiple perspectives
  • Database management
  • Communicate effectively
  • Proficiency and flexibility with the use of technology, including but not limited to social media
  • Cope with pressure of deadlines, particularly around the spring conference
  • Problem solving 
  • Flexibility
  • Broad perspective of the current issues in mathematics education
  • Historical knowledge of MCTM
