Opportunities for Members, Don’t Miss Out!

Besides the spring conference, MCTM is putting together more opportunities for members to learn, interact and stay connected year round.

We are a little over halfway through a book study on the book Necessary Conditions. The book is a great resource for improving group work and student discourse in your classroom. We are hosting the book study on Twitter (#mctmbook) and Facebook (join the private group “MCTM Book Study”). You can get the book from Stenhouse Publishers or Amazon. If you haven’t had a chance to join us yet or read the book, don’t worry, you can still jump in. Even if you don’t read the book, the conversations are beneficial.

The rest of the dates and chapters are

Nov 13 (ch. 8-11)   AND    Dec 4 (ch. 12-13)

Respond to all or some of the questions and/or respond to others.

Have you ever attended an EdCamp? It is one of the best professional development events I have ever attended! It is an informal time with other educators where you get to decide what you learn and talk about for the day. There is no preparation, just show up with ideas for topics, items you want to learn more about or items you want to share about. Check out this video to learn more.

MCTM is hosting a couple Math EdCamps this year around the state. Check your emails from your Region Directors for an EdCamp near you. The directors in the Twin Cities area will have a Math EdCamp geared for Elementary teachers (k-6) on January 11th. Other regions are looking at January, February, and March. If you would like on close to you, please contact your Regional Director, they are always looking for a location to host the EdCamp.

A Regional Director is the elected MCTM member in your region that serves on the board to represent members in your region and help meet member needs. Each year, two or three regions elect a new Director. This year, regions 1, 4, and 7 will be electing new directors. This means that they are looking for nominations from those regions. The Regional Director is a 3-year term with 4 meetings during the year (expenses are covered by MCTM and meetings are on Saturdays). What you do in this role is almost up to you. Email your Director if you want to know more or want to nominate yourself or someone else.
