Goals as MCTM Officer

Throughout my career as a teacher MCTM has had a significant impact on my practice as a math teacher. I have had the opportunity to spend 5 years of my teaching career as a math specialist where I was able to work along side of teachers to develop our mathematical practices as well as lead professional development in Minneapolis for teachers. My goal as a teacher is to make sure all students have access to quality math education. My belief as a teacher is to develop conceptual understanding with flexible thinking with number sense in each and every student. If I am elected, as an officer I will work to create, support and lead opportunities for teachers and leaders in mathematics to work together to collaborate and share ideas and ultimately learn from each other. Another goal I have would be to expand the membership of MCTM.

Goals as MCTM Officer

Over the past 7 years I have had the opportunity to learn from other professionals about the study of mathematics by attending regional and national math conferences and by taking the time to read and collaborate with others on current research and practice in the mathematics community. The excitement I felt from these experiences is what inspired me to return to the classroom after 5 years as a math specialist. I love sharing this excitement with others and I want to help create a space for others to join this inspiring community, where we can share and learn together. This environment is what MCTM is to me; as an Officer, I would encourage others to take part, so that we can grow this community and add perspective while we continue to learn together.
