Goals as MCTM Officer

Once I become an MCTM Regional Director, I would strive to increase network connections for math teachers in the southwest Minnesota district, and provide opportunities for regional professional development and best practices sharing.

I am actively involved in my district to help students acquire the independence to learn new things about math. My previous experience in tutoring has given me a great appreciation for students who struggle, and I endeavor to differentiate their learning when I can to make math less undesirable, and something that gives “wonder” and inspiration in ways students cannot be measured with a standardized test score.  I am a regular member of MCTM, and utilize the #MTBoS on Twitter.  I recently attended the MCTM Duluth conference and used several ideas to implement in my classroom.  As I am part of the College Now system in Minnesota, I attend the yearly workshop in Marshall, Minnesota.  I also like to incorporate technology and different ways of learning into the classroom to make math more interesting.  By attending events like ITIT, I can bring back ideas to the district on relating technology to the different disciplines.

In my career MCTM has been a great resource. MCTM has done an outstanding job of creating a conference year in and year out. My goal is to do my part in assisting in the continuation of creating an outstanding conference. My goal is also to share the knowledge and to create meaningful professional development opportunities for my region.
