HEART!

I love books about leadership. I especially love those books that provide a vision and an opportunity for reflection. Dr. Timothy Kanold’s book titled HEART! Fully Forming Your Professional Life as a Teacher and Leader does both.

I have had the chance to attend a couple of trainings lead by Dr. Kanold and his presence is one of thoughtfulness and caring combined with a deep understanding of teaching and leading. I have had colleagues say about Dr. Kanold “He is just so easy to listen to.” His messages are powerful and this book reflects so much of who he is and the depth of his work.

The book Heart has 5 parts, each representing one of the letters of the word HEART.  H stands for Happiness, E for Engagement, A for Alliances, R for Risk and T for Thought.  The design of the book is unique in that in addition to the author’s text, there is a space for journaling and reflection.

The author states, “It is my hope that HEART! Will be both affirming and challenging as your teaching and leading career unfolds” (p. 3).

Over the next few months, I will share some of my reflections on this book as I both read it and engage in conversation with some teacher leaders in my district.  These reflections lead up to our May 3rd, 2018 Symposium  where Dr. Kanold will share his insights first hand from this book. Registration information will be coming soon!!!
